About us
So you buy a house, you’re in awe of how perfect everything seems, and then… a light switch stops working. The toilet starts running at all hours of the night for no apparent reason. You find yourself wanting to do something to make that blank wall a little less… blank. At first, you might call someone out to fix these things for you, or to design a space, but you quickly realize that sometimes, this isn’t cost effective, and you want to learn how to take care of these things yourself. Where to begin?
Who am I?
I’m Andrew Laine, the Hesitant Handyman. Like you, I was once a brand new homeowner–my wife and I bought our first house in 2015, and starting out I was terrified to work on anything in the house–I could always think of the worst case scenario, be it accidentally puncturing a water line while hanging pictures to somehow electrocuting myself while mowing the lawn, which would have been an impressive feat with a gas mower.
I realized fairly quickly that most of my fears were unwarranted, and based on a lack of knowledge–because as a renter I’d always left these items to the property manager, I’d never bothered to learn any of the skills associated with home ownership. As I dug into it more, I realized a lot of the items I was most afraid of were actually not too hard, and I began to write this blog to share my experiences in home improvement. So if you’re looking for someone who’s just ahead of you in this home ownership journey, welcome! I’m glad you’re able to join us!
